Pair of Sulfur Crested Cockatoos Sulfur Crested Cockatoos mate for life. The courtship is short and simple. The male struts along a branch toward his prospective mate with his crest raised, bobbing his head while uttering soft, chattering calls. Before mating, the birds gently preen each other.

Palm Cockatoo eating a treat This is a Palm Cockatoo enjoying a sugarcane treat. Treats are great for teaching Cockatoos tricks and for rewarding positive behavior. A fun game hiding some treats in a toy and letting your Cockatoo work its way to them.

cockatoo bird breeds
Goffin's Cockatoo eating red cabbage Goffin's Cockatoos are picky eaters and they use calories efficiently. Cockatoos should be fed a pelleted diet. High-protein diets make an excellent diet for Goffin's Cockatoos. Also, you should add fresh fruits and vegetables daily for variety.

Umbrella Cockatoo brushing teeth

Umbrella Cockatoo brushing teeth Here, Cindy, our Umbrella Cockatoo, is demonstrating good hygiene habits by brushing her beak. Actually, Cockatoos don't brush their beaks. They do, however, need a lot of toys, which can cost a lot of money. A very simple and cheap toy for your parrot can be a clean toothbrush, as long as it doesn't have any metal in it.

Palm Cockatoo drumming To attract a mate, the Palm Cockatoo would make a drum out of a stick or branch and a hollow tree or something similar. Depending on how good a drummer he is, the female Cockatoo will be interested or not. It seems like this wonderful creature is both creative and romantic.

Baby Sulfur Crested Cockatoo Here is little Charlie, a baby Sulfur Crested Cockatoo. The best way of making sure your parrot will grow up tame and happy is to handfeed them. The baby learns that you are its food source, its teacher, protector, its mom and dad, and it depends on you for its survival.

breeding cockatoo bird
Moluccan Cockatoo The Moluccan Cockatoo is among the largest of the white cockatoos. It has white-pink feathers with a definite peachy glow, a slight yellow on the underwing and underside of the tail feathers. The large crest is also a lovely red-peach color and it raises when threatened to frighten potential attackers (may also be raised in excitement, or other 'emotional' displays). The Moluccan Cockatoo in this photo has an almost royal look.

Goffin's Cockatoo hanging from a finger

cockatoo bird breeding
Goffin's Cockatoo hanging from a finger A lot of parrots are intelligent and can be taught tricks. This Goffin's Cockatoo is performing a "bat" trick: hanging upside-down from its owner's finger. This is a fairly easy trick to train and does not require any tricks be learned previously. The only requirement is to have a hand tame parrot.

Sulfur Crested Cockatoo eating garden plant The Sulfur Crested Cockatoo can be found in wooded habitats in Australia and New Guinea. They can be locally very numerous and cause damage to cereal and fruit crops, which leads to them being considered pests. They can destroy timber structures, such as house planking, garden furniture and trees.

Umbrella Cockatoo with key Cockatoos are very intelligent and some can even learn to pick the locks to their cages and manipulate people. This Umbrella Cockatoo is an expert at both! He stole the key to his cage, so that his master won't be able to lock him inside again. What a cunning little fellow!

pet cockatoo training
Hatching of a baby Goffin's Cockatoo We are here witnessing the miracle of birth. A baby Goffin's Cockatoo is hatching from its egg. Newly hatched Cockatoos are naked and blind and don't open their eyes for several weeks. Hatchlings take between 60 and 100 days to become fully plumed and at that time they will begin to explore outside of the nest.

Moluccan Cockatoo screaming

,564 votes
female cockatoo
Moluccan Cockatoo screaming The Moluccan Cockatoo is a very intelligent bird and also a demanding pet. You have to be prepared to spend at least 4 to 5 hours a day interacting with it. If it doesn't get challenges and stimulation, the Moluccan Cockatoo will get bored. A bored bird will scream, destroy its surroundings and pluck its feathers (which is a serious habit that is hard to break).

Galah

male cockatoo
Galah The Galah is pale grey above and pink below. The male has dark brown eye and female has red eye. Its crest varies from pink in Western Australia to white throughout the rest of Australia. Juvenile Galahs have a grey breast and a grey eye-ring. Often seen in large flocks of between 30 to 1000 birds. In rain they like to hang upside down from branches or power lines, wings spread wide to catch the rain.
